When arriving from Spokane, please remember that you will move from Pacific to Mountain time zone at the Montana/Idaho border. The area between Sandpoint, Idaho and Trout Creek is a heavily traveled game area as is the area between Thompson Falls and Trout Creek in Montana. Both routes are approximately 135 miles and you should allow 2 to 3 hours for travel.
Coming from Spokane, WA:
1. Travel EAST on Interstate 90 to Coeur dAlene, ID, Take the US-95 N (exit 12) towards Sandpoint Idaho. (Approx. 50 miles) At the Exit light turn left onto 95 N and proceed approximately 44 miles
2. You will be going through the town of Sandpoint and you need to pay attention to the signs and follow the HWY 95 signs. (There are a couple of turns in the town that you will take).
3. After you pass through Sandpoint, a short distance down the road you will come to a junction in the road that is marked by a flashing light. GO STRAIGHT AT THE LIGHT DO NOT TURN LEFT Highway 95 blends into Highway 200 Idaho at the light. HWY 200 Idaho will then blend into HWY 200 MT at the Idaho MT boarder.
a. You will see signs that you are headed for Clarkfork ID 4. Travel EAST on Highway 200 approximately 65 miles to Trout Creek, passing through Clark Fork, ID and passing by the turn-offs to Heron and Noxon, MT.
5. In Trout Creek, you will see the Wayside Bar on your right. Immediately after the Wayside Bar turn RIGHT onto Cedar Street.
6. Follow Cedar Street one block to Fir Street and turn LEFT.
7. Follow Fir Street 3/4 mile on paved road through Trout Creek. You will come to a Y in the road where you could go straight or turn right. TURN RIGHT. There will be Rail Road Tracks that you will go over. These tracks have several trains running through Trout Creek at various times every day. They are NOT marked with cross-gates or warning signals. Check carefully for trains before crossing the tracks.
8. After going over the Rail Road tracks, follow the county road up a steep switchback hill. Follow county road 1 1/4 miles then turn LEFT at Explorations driveway. The driveway is marked with a post archway and green gate. We are the 4th house on the left after the railroad tracks. The house is set back 1/4 mile from the road. There is a field between the county road and the house.
Coming from Missoula, MT:
1. Travel WEST on Interstate 90 to Highway 93.
2. Turn RIGHT on Highway 93 NORTH (to Kalispell, MT). Travel approximately 27 miles to Ravalli, MT.
3. In Ravalli, turn LEFT onto Highway 200 WEST. Travel approximately 85 miles through Dixon, Paradise, Plains, Thompson Falls and Trout Creek, MT.
4. When you reach Trout Creek, you will see the Cenex Station on the left side of the highway. Just after Cenex and before the Wayside Bar turn LEFT onto Cedar Street.
5. Follow Cedar Street one block to Fir Street and turn LEFT.
